Political Action Committee

The Local 1776 Political Action Committee (PAC) helps union members to support pro-labor candidates for political office.  Now, more than ever, we need strong, fully-funded PACs to protect our job security, wages, and benefits.  Our legislative program is designed to build power for working families.  We need to support those candidates and elected officials who share our goals in creating strong working class families, and who will fight for us!  Your voice can be heard in Harrisburg, Washington, and municipal chambers throughout our jurisdiction through PAC!   Join us in building a strong PAC, and help us elect and support candidates who share our commitment to worker rights, affordable health care, safe working environments, and a level playing field that gives workers a fair opportunity to be union members and protects their bargaining rights.

Joining PAC also means you will become eligible for awesome Local 1776 merchandise.  Every week you are a PAC member, you earn PAC points, which can be traded in for cool stuff like Local 1776 sweatshirts, watches, jackets, hats, etc. You can also earn additional PAC points by participating in PAC activities like phone banks, hand billing, canvassing, and helping on election day to support PAC endorsed candidates.

The Employee Free Choice Act

The Employee Free Choice Act is legislation that would protect and expand the middle class and strengthen our economy by giving workers the choice to join a union-without company interference.  It would ultimately raise wages and benefits for ALL workers.  The Employee Free Choice Act will give workers more power and level the playing field.  Firstly, it gives WORKERS, not their employers, the power to decide how to vote for union representation; either by a majority of workers signing cards or by secret-ballot election.  Secondly, it ensures workers will get their first contract.  A neutral arbitrator will settle a contract when a company and a newly certified union cannot agree on a contract after three months.  Thirdly, the Employee Free Choice Act holds employers accountable by strengthening penalties for companies that illegally coerce or intimate workers to prevent them from forming a union.

The Employee Free Choice Act is good for workers, good for the economy, and good for America!

Health Care for America Now!

We believe that everyone in this country should have accessible, quality health care they can afford.  We are at a historic moment in the fight for health care reform.  Never have we been so close to passing legislation that will help bring the real change we need.  But while we should be proud of how far we've come together, we can't stop now.  Our Representatives need to hear from us and know Local 1776 members support quality health care that shares responsibility for reform among individuals, employers, and the government.
